Athlete Assessment and Management Upper Quarter (C/T Spine, upper limb)

ATHLETE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT – Upper Quadrant April 6 (10 hours)

This seminar/workshop series will focus on regional assessment of Athlete and multimodal unique therapy focusing on vibration therapy and rehabilitation, joint and fascia mobilization, IASTM (Kazemizer Shark®) and Leukomizer® taping technique.

The principle of assessment including history taking, physical assessment including orthopedic, neurological and myofascial testing will be explored. Scientific evidence for Whole Body Vibration (WBV) exercise rehab, VMTX Vibromax Therapeutics® (neuromusculoskeletal therapy via utilization of hand-held vibration device), IASTM and Leukomizer® taping will be presented. We will then proceed to hands on assessment and treatment of the area utilizing the specific approach.

Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar the participant will learn about:

  • Assessment and diagnosis of athletic injuries of upper quadrant MSK injuries and conditions
  • Treatment of upper quadrant MSK injuries and conditions using Whole Body Vibration, VMTX Vibromax Therapeutis®, Kazemizer Shark® and Leukomizer® taping technique
  • Scientific evidence for:
    • whole body vibration and its physiological effects and how to use it for rehabilitation and training
    • local vibration therapy VMTX, Vibromax Therapeutics® and how to use it for treatment of upper quadrant
    • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization/therapy and utilization of Kazemizer Shark® to treat upper quadrant MSK injuries and conditions
    • Leukomizer® taping technique and application for upper quadrant MSK injuries and conditions

Preparation : Two hours theory readings require prior to course

Bio:

Dr. Mohsen Kazemi, RN, DC, FRCCSS(C), FCCPOR(C), DACRB, MSc, PhD

Dr. Kazemi is a Doctor of Chiropractic, Fellow of Royal College of Sports Sciences (Canada), Fellow of College of Chiropractic Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation (Canada). Dr. Kazemi has successfully defended his PhD thesis, “WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL sparing taekwondo ATHLETE?”.

Dr. Kazemi has been teaching at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) since 1996. At the present time he is Professor at CMCC teaching Clinical Education to forth year student and Sports Specific Subjects to first- and second-year Sports Sciences Residents. He is also the Sports Sciences Residency program coordinator at CMCC. He continues to be involved in research in Taekwondo, concussion and sports chiropractic. He has taught various continuing education seminars on topics such as Shock Wave Therapy, VMTX Vibromax Therapeutics®, Kazemizer Shark®, Sports Chiropractic, extremity and spinal adjusting, and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Kazemi has been serving as the Associate Editor for Acta Taekwondo and Martial Arts and Assistant editor for the Sports Issue of JCCA.

He has published several scientific articles and research in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research in Taekwondo and chiropractic around the world. Dr. Kazemi is the author of the first complete book on vibration plate exercise programs, “Vibration Plate Exercise”; VMTX Vibromax Therapeutics® Lower Limb; Kazemizer Shark® Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization technique and Leukomizer® Taping Technique.

Dr. Kazemi is also the inventor of the VMTX Vibromax Therapeutics® soft tissue technique, Kazemizer Shark® (IASTM), Kazemizer, a portable exercise device and method of preventing lactic-acid build-up and Leukomizer® taping technique.

Dr. Kazemi holds 7th degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo and has been Canadian Taekwondo Poomsae Champion in 2006, 2008 and 2010 to present time. He won gold at the 2008 World Hanmadang Taekwondo, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Canada Open, and bronze medal in Pan Am 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 Poomsae championships.

Dr. Kazemi has been the Medical Chair for Ontario Taekwondo Association since 2003 and also served as the WTF Taekwondo Canada Medical Chair (May 2009 to August 2010). He has been the appointed Alternate Chiropractor for Core Canadian Health Care Team for the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, Rio 2007 Pan American Games and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He served as the Core Canadian Medical Team Chiropractor at Santa Domingo 2003 Pan American Games and Canadian Taekwondo team Chiropractor at Beijing 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games. He was the appointed Chiropractor to Mount Cypress at 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He was the only Canadian Chiropractor at the first Youth Olympic Games, Singapore, 2010. He also worked as sports chiropractor at 2011 and 2015 Pan Am games.
