A clinical and evidence-based course focusing on manual therapy techniques to support the post natal period for both mom and baby…because treating one without the other is only half the solution; they are still attached via an invisible umbilical cord

Course objectives

INFANT:

Learn infant manual therapy techniques for breastfeeding and feeding success

Differential diagnosis of tongue ties, lip ties, buccal ties and associated myofascial and joint restrictions as barriers to optimal feeding, and what to do

Learn techniques for infants after labour process, understanding role of intrauterine positioning and birth interventions

Understand breastfeeding position/ergonomics to prevent maternal injuries and improve breastfeeding efficiency for the infant

MATERNAL HEALTH AND POST NATAL RECOVERY:

Learn Hypopressive Low Pressure Fitness – a posture and breathing technique as the first tool in core recovery

Learn Pilates based exercises in the earliest to later stages to rehabilitate the pelvic floor and core

Identify red and yellow flags in both mom and baby for referrals

Learn the role of collaboration with a team guest speaker: pelvic physiotherapist, IBCLC, naturopath, psychotherapist

Learn chiropractic and other hands on manual therapy techniques to support recovery for both maternal health and infants, using both clinical experience and evidence base recommendations

 BIO:

Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit is a chiropractor, IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and Pilates Instructor who is passionate about supporting new moms and babies in their early days, which are critical to recovery and bonding.

With over 18 years experience, Dr. Darlene is Webster certified, Stott Pilates certified and a Hypopressive Low Pressure Fitness instructor.  She has presented at international conferences on preparing the mom/baby dyad for frenectomy, created courses in infant manual therapy solutions for breastfeeding and fussy babies, teaches mom/baby Pilates and more.  Currently practicing in both Grand Cayman and Toronto, Dr. Darlene is focusing on helping creating healthier and collaborative communities.
