1. Course Description

This continuing education course equips recent chiropractic graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to assess and treat pre‑school aged children (2–5 years). Through a blend of lecture, demonstration, case‑based learning, and hands‑on practice, participants will learn to perform age‑appropriate assessments, identify red flags, communicate effectively with caregivers, and deliver safe, evidence‑informed manual therapy tailored to the developmental needs of young children.

The course emphasizes inclusive, neurodiversity‑affirming, family‑centered care and practical clinical decision‑making.


2. Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Clinical Knowledge

  • Describe typical developmental milestones for ages 2–5 across motor, sensory, communication, and social domains.
  • Identify common musculoskeletal presentations in pre‑school children.
  • Recognize red flags requiring referral or co‑management.

Assessment Skills

  • Conduct an age‑appropriate history with caregiver involvement.
  • Perform a structured physical exam for the 2–5 age group, including observation, movement assessment, and palpation.
  • Adapt assessment strategies for neurodiverse children or children with sensory sensitivities.

Treatment Skills

  • Demonstrate safe, evidence‑informed manual therapy techniques appropriate for pre‑school children.
  • Apply movement‑based and play‑based interventions to support function.
  • Modify treatment plans for children with developmental delays, autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences.

Communication & Professionalism

  • Communicate findings clearly and compassionately to caregivers.
  • Document pediatric encounters in a defensible, developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary providers.
